1. Are collection service costs based on garbage container size?

Yes. Waste collection services are based on the size of the garbage container residents choose to use. Rates for services are as follows:

All Prices are per month. A 38 gallon can costs $16.55. A 60 gallon can costs $19.55. A 90 gallon can costs $25.55.

By doing your part to maximize use of the mixed recycling and green waste collection programs and reduce the amount of solid waste, you not only help the environment but also take less out of your pocketbook. The smaller the container, the more money you save!

Collection service rates include costs for garbage collection, mixed recycling, green waste collection and Neighborhood Cleanup service.


2. Will there be a rate increase for waste collection services in 2007?

No. For the seventh consecutive year, no rate increase is required for waste management and recycling services.


3. Why do I have to pay for services I don't need, such as green waste pick up?

The current types of waste collection services offered to residents were developed in response to health and environmental laws and customer demand. Below is a brief description of services provided to typical households:

Neighboorhood Cleanup. The Neighborhood Cleanup (NCU) service was devloped in responce to residents' need for a way to dispose of bulky items that do not fit into regular garbage containers. According to a recent customer survey, 88 percent of County residents use this popular program.  Recycling. State law requires the County to reduce landfilled waste by 50 percent. The mixed recycling program coupled with green waste collection has helped us accomplish this reduction from residential customers.  Garbage. Garbage service is mandatory for health and safety reasons.

4. What happens to the revenues from the recycling program?

Typically, revenues from curbside recycling programs cover approximately 25 percent of overall costs. Service fees cover the remaining costs. The revenues from sold recyclables are placed into the operating budget and used to offset program costs and keep rates low.
